What do I do if I have to evacuate the library?

Answer

In the case of a fire or natural disaster emergency evacuation, these are the closest emergency exits for each space:

First Floor

  • Searle Reading Room, User Services office and 1-411 conference room (exit main library door).
  • First floor study space (emergency exit near bottom of ramp).
  • Eckenhoff Reading Room and Ward Corridor (exit Chicago Avenue door).
  • Breakroom and Offices in the Chicago Avenue corridor (exit Chicago Avenue door).

Mezzanine (exit via emergency door at South end of floor)

Second Floor

  • East—from the Computer Classroom to Dollie’s Corner and including the Morton Corridor
  • West—from Dollie’s Corner and moving west to the West Reading Room.
  • Special Collections & Administration office suite (exit East emergency exit near Admin Conference Room)
  • Admin Conference Room and Computer Classroom (exit East emergency exit near Admin Conference Room)

If you need evacuation assistance, please wait in these designated areas:

  • First Floor: Searle conference room (Searle 1-411).
  • Mezzanine: South work room (Searle M-422).
  • Second Floor: Outside Dollie’s Corner Stair B or C.

For all emergencies, follow Northwestern University Emergency Management guidelines.
